Professional Summary
I am Morgan Skillicorn, a fourth-year Game Design and Production student at Abertay University. I am particularly interested in tools design and systems design which I have chosen to specialise in during my final year honours project. I will soon be graduating from Abertay and am looking forward to making my mark in the industry. I have always been interested in the systems that work behind the scenes in games and have always tried to understand how they work which has driven me to this area of the industry. I have a strong understanding of C# and object-oriented programming and a keen interest in various aspects of game design. These combined skills have formed my interest in the intersection of game design and the technical systems that underpin it. Because of this experience, I would be well suited to a more technical role and am interested to see how these skills can be used to design gameplay systems and tools. I will graduate Abertay this summer and am actively looking for a position in production or as a technical designer at a games studio in the UK or further afield.

BA (Hons) Games Design & Production

My primary focus during my final year of university is my honours project. I have chosen to specialise in the design of tools in Unity for balancing weapons in FPS games using data driven methodologies. I have also worked as both a producer and designer/developer on a number of smaller group and individual projects.
I feel my skills were best suited to the more technical modules with keen interest being shown in the data analytics, systems design and honours modules of my course. I worked well as a strong producer and leader on a number of team projects and was able to deliver a good quality product at the end of every module.

During lockdown I made many friends playing "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege" many of these friends being notable content creators. I decided to take a personal interest further and begin streaming myself gaming. I now regularly run my own stream and have helped organise trips to various LAN events in the R6 Esports calendar. It has been a steep learning curve but I feel my ability to learn new skills and produce a live show has been demonstrated well by this.

Skills
I have a background programming from school and college that I have built on during my time at university making me a strong technically minded designer. Being able to bridge the gap between code and design has allowed me to undertake a number of interesting projects that can be seen in my portfolio. These projects would not have been possible without a strong programming understanding.
I am very strong working in C# and Unity with some understanding of HTML and PHP. I am a fast learner and open to learn any language or software required. As I have already mentioned, this experience programming paired with my skills as a designer has really interested me in the overlap between design and development. I like being able to conceptualise something and then make it myself and I feel this would be a great asset to any technical design department.
I have a good understanding of the Adobe CC and Microsoft Office suites as well as a fundamental understanding of Autodesk Maya and Substance Painter.
I am a great team player and have no problem working with others as well as leading a team to success which has been demonstrated during my time as a shift supervisor as well as producer on a number of successful academic projects.
I am also a keen hobbyist motorsports photographer and my work can be seen on my other website MRGN.Media.
Hobbies & Interests
During my spare time I enjoy playing FPS games taking an interest in Call of Duty and more predominantly Rainbow 6 Siege where I am keenly interested in the esports scene. I stream my Rainbow 6 Siege gameplay to Twitch and have built friendships across the community attending various tier one tournaments including the Jönköping Major in Sweden and the 2023 Six Invitational in Montréal, Canada.
It is my passion for FPS games that has driven me to a career in the games industry and has played a key part in the development of my final year honours project "Using orthogonal unit differentiation to design tools for weapon balancing in first person shooter games".
When not playing FPS games I enjoy taking part in game jams and challenging myself with personal game design projects. I also am a keen photographer, specialising in motorsport photography. Being from the Isle of Man I am keenly interested in superbike racing as well as being a big fan of both Red Bull Racing and F1 as a whole. My photography can be seen over on my photography portfolio MRGN.Media.
